The Tomboy Project

“To travel is to take a journey within yourself.”

January 1, 2012 I was sitting in my friend’s guest bedroom in Austin, Texas. I was there for another friend’s wedding; though in my off-time my brain was spinning on other ideas as usual.

I had my heart set on starting a clothing company for as long as I can remember. As I was brainstorming ways to push awareness of the tomboy stereotype in a positive light, this project just poured out of me.

In 2012, being a tomboy was still socially taboo. Yet, I decided to travel by myself in search of a tomboy in each of the 50 states. With no money, investors or contacts, people obviously thought I was nuts.

In a little over two and a half years I completed my traveling and am now working on publishing the book.

While the clothing company idea has fallen by the wayside, I hope to use this project to showcase positive and healthy women to inspire others to follow their dreams.
